چکیده

We present two unusual presentations of decompression sickness manifesting at previous injury sites after deep mixed-gas recreational diving. While previous injury is often cited as a predisposing factor in decompression illness, formal case reports of this phenomenon are rare in the diving literature.

Theoretical tissue compartment inert gas pressures during a deep dive with and without deep decompression stops: a case analysis.

BACKGROUND Deep decompression stops are increasingly common in recreational technical diving. Concerns exist that they shift decompression stress back into slower tissues. A diver recorded an exceptional exposure dive, with deeps stops, on a commercially available dive computer. MATERIAL AND METHODS Using the R package SCUBA tissue inert gas pressures in 17 Bühlmann (ZH-L16A) compartments wer...

On Validation of a Popular Sport Diving Decompression Model

Linking deep stop model and data, we detail the LANL reduced gradient bubble model (RGBM), dynamical principles, and correlation with the LANL Data Bank. Table, profile, and meter risks are obtained from likelihood analysis, and pertinent applications include nonstop air diving, the Bennett and Maronni 2.5 minute recreational deep stop, C & C Team 450/20 multiple RB dive sequence at 1.4 atm, NE...

A biophysical basis for inner ear decompression sickness

Isolated inner ear decompression sickness (DCS) is recognised in deep diving involving breathing of helium-oxygen mixtures, particularly where breathing gas is switched to a nitrogen-rich mixture during decompression. The biophysical basis for this selective vulnerability of the inner ear to DCS has not been established. A compartmental model of inert gas kinetics in the human inner ear was con...

Observation of increased venous gas emboli after wet dives compared to dry dives.

INTRODUCTION Testing of decompression procedures has been performed both in the dry and during immersion, assuming that the results can be directly compared. To test this, the aim of the present paper was to compare the number of venous gas bubbles observed following a short, deep and a shallow, long air dive performed dry in a hyperbaric chamber and following actual dives in open water. METH...
